Entertaining Elevated: How much wine to stock for your next get together

Getting ready to host a backyard get together, an engagement party, or a more formal dinner party? There’s a lot to plan and prepare, and things to do during your event. While you’re worried about whether your guests are having fun (they are!) you shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not you’ve got enough for people to drink!

We’ve got an easy calculation that you use as a starting point for calculating how many drinks you need, and some tips and tricks to double check!

2 drinks x number of guests x hours for the event

= total number of drinks

Next, take that total number of drinks and divide it by types of drinks. say you want to have Red Blend and Pinot Grigio available, plus a beer option. You need to divide your total number of drinks by three then divide the number of drinks per container (a bottle of wine is 5 drinks).

(Total Number of drinks ÷ types of drinks)

÷ number of drinks per bottle

= number of bottles of each wine/beverage

We recommend rounding up if you hit a decimal, just to be on the safe side. Two drinks per hour takes into account that some folks may drink faster or slower. We do recommend that if you know most people will want white wine (whether it’s because it’s warmer out, or it pairs better with the meal) then you should add a few drinks to the white wine calculation and subtract them from somewhere else.

If you’re hosting a celebration where there may be toasts (like a rehearsal, engagement, or graduation celebration) add Prosecco on top of your usual drink count. If you’re passing out Prosecco for a toast, it’s likely that your guests won’t put down their current beverage, so it’s best to be prepared for your bubbly to be an “extra” drink!

When in doubt, stock up on beverages you enjoy, and store easily so that if you’re left with some extra wine, you’ve now got an excuse to pour yourself a glass and celebrate any day of the week! Order online now to cross “wine” off your to-do list!
